ISB Interview

Candidates short-listed for ISB Interviews

Well… an ISB interview call is the culmination of admission process and does need you to be prepared well… in fact more than that….

There are some basic steps to be taken so that you give your best shot in the ISB interview. Here are some insights from ISB alums from Class of 2008 and 2009.

1) The ISB Application : Yes, this is in fact one of the most important factor… you should always write stuff which is genuine…. Write what you really feel are your strengths, achievements and viewpoints…. This gives the much needed confidence to speak well in an interview….. Read your application thoroughly prior to your interview…

2) What to prepare for ISB interview– Asking guesstimate problems to engineers is fairly common…. So be prepared to solve some/ at-least have a look at some… candidates having fairly high work-ex (5 years and above) are likely to face relatively higher number of questions about their work experience

3) Basic Questions in ISB Interview…. You should be clear and well prepared about some obvious questions such as the need for MBA in your life… what will you contribute to ISB…. Job changes (or any other changes in life)… extra-curricular activities….your future plans…

4) What else - remaining part of the interview questions could range from current affairs to what you have written in the write-up (for one-word topic; required to be submitted prior to the interview)….. so just be updated on what’s happening around and have a viewpoint on the current issues

5) Last but not the least…since you are appearing for an ISB interview… it is always advisable to do some research/ reading on ISB….. talk to alums/ current students…. Visit the campus…. And remember do not do these activities randomly…. Try to establish a link between your profile and the homework you do on ISB!

What makes a good MBA application

MBA applicants often create a long list of points (achievements/ strengths) in an attempt to highlight the best of their profile in b-school application. The situation then does become difficult when one needs to choose the right one(s).

Here are some simple points to answer the complex question "How should I decide what to write in the essays?"

An MBA admission is influenced by your overall personality and how your personality will add to the b-school community. The following points will enable you to bring out your best.

1) Originality - Mind it! You have to be genuine and original in your thoughts. Imagine convincing the admission committee member reading a point about which you yourself are not convinced. Something highly unlikely to happen!

Give a good amount of thought and an honest answer to what you pen down in your essays. This is the only way your essays will talk about what you are as a person.

2) Differentiate yourself - Differentiation is the name of the game. Every b-school looks for diversity, so choose points that indicate a different/ unique skill. This could be an extra curricular activity, professional achievement or something else.
And remember no point is big or small. It just depends on your passion and the way of writing.

3) Choose the right MIX - When you talk about your strengths/ weaknesses/ achievements, make sure that you have a right mix of professional and personal domains. While highlighting professional achievements is very important, writing about personal experiences does give a human touch to your application - something very important in an MBA application.

Well, that's it for the time being. Look out for more tips on this community.

Happy Apping
